When 2 want to visit.
by stillin insome of the local witnesses have been by, periodically, to check on us and say that they miss us.
i consider that a decent thing to do since they figure that we're going to die any day now from the loving god.
some have been elders, who have to always stay distant so that they don't somehow get contaminated by being too nice to us.

Lord, to whom shall we go?
by Lee Elder inonce someone figures out that the watchtower is not a safe place for their family, they come face to face with the question of where they should be.
i don't have the answer for that, but can speak to my personal experience over the past 20 years.. i ended up taking a 12 year break from organized religion, and then read an article about a new group that had formed locally called aldea spiritual community.
after a few visits, i realized that i had found a home among others who were fed up with organized religion.

The witnesses said we have a "Spiritual need" that must be met. Those kinds of buzzwords become adopted as a "Truth" by believers. The same as "The Truth". We were indoctrinated that God has a "truth" we must find. A "true" religion etc. are watchwords for the fraudulent bodies of believers. Out of a measure of caution, many of us hesitate to see any group, including one that is organized, yet denies it is organized, as worthy of our time. It seems you have gotten past that. I have not. My knee jerk reaction is to say run away. Keep your eyes opened and your checkbook/debit card close to you vest my friend. Just being an ex JW here.

Another example of the mirror world that JW's inhabit. They just can't see it my friend. In the second example it is the mother that is the addict. She's addicted to the drugs the GB is giving her, false hope and an overdose of self righteousness.

Let's Talk About Writing
by TerryWalstrom inlet's talk about writing.
for me, writing is sort of like jazz.. writing is "thinking inside the moment".
improvising and surprising an audience--is good jazz.. have you ever heard "bad" jazz?ha ha ha--of course you have!

I agree that the story and characters have their own life and it is discovery to write. This unfortunately doens't make it good in and of itself. Often it can lead to self indulgence. A good writer has at least some sense of his reader, and the ability to self edit to a degree, while writing. Unlike jazz, it is the rewriting where the magic comes together.
My main reason for not liking Jazz is that it seems self centered. Clearly the performer is enthralled with being a virtuoso and this leads to self indulgence, the artist assumes it is great because it keeps going. Similarly some writers confuse verbiage with quality. Thanks for a stimulating thread.

I seldom read long posts about a person's horror story. Your story was compelling and informative. When that fervor takes hold its a real cancer. So pleased your boys found a father who really cares for their future. Keep up the education that has benefited you so much. I also look forward to seeing your growth away from the Watchtower.

Two witness rule: who cares?
by _Morpheus ini find people railing against the so called “two witness rule” puzzling.
i think its a complete and total non issue.
for those that protest, argue or advocate for change in that rule, why?
-
Wasanelder Once
I agree that the two witness rule should not prevent law enforcement from being notified. The problem is that the enforcement of such a bullshit rule is a church law that the majority submit to because it is the source of sanction in the congregation. Considering the firm warning about tarnishing the reputation of the org it contributes to hesitancy to report and since the witnesses won't engage with "Satan's" system it contributes to suffering. In addition it has contributed to moving the Pedos around without warning, endangering more kids. Think about it, they'll let their kids die from no blood at the GB's insistence. If they do that they will let them be raped in silence before harming the reputation of the true organization of god. Aw hell, you know this Morph. Anyway.... You da man!

Jehovah's Witness core Doctrine has changed over time. Has Dogma changed?
by TerryWalstrom infirst things first!let us define our terms: doctrine and dogma.doctrine: a codification of beliefs, taught principles, or positions.
dogma a set of principles laid down by an authority (in this case, the governing body, acting as the faithful slave of christ) as incontrovertibly true.
_____in the catholic church, dogma never changes but doctrines have over time.this sets me to wondering.
-
Wasanelder Once
The main dogma is that the GB are sanctioned by the Bible and God as Jesus' brothers (this cannot change) and arbiters of all doctrine.
That dogma is the source of the the latest hard line doctrines and Bible exegesis which are incontrovertible. (until next week)

Why not mix chocolate with coffee? My mom used to make a chocolate cake with chocolate coffee frosting. The perfect compromise.
